- What is a XpenseTracker.com? Who can use it?
- XpenseTracker.com is an online tool for budgeting and expense tracking for individuals, families and groups. Being web-based, it does not need to be installed on a home computer and therefore, it is reachable from work, home or even school. [View Quick Overview]
XpenseTracker.com can serve a variety of people and purposes:

- How secure or confidential is my data?
- XpenseTracker.com operates on a secured server and employs SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) technology. All data that is transmitted within this secure connection is encrypted with industry standard 128 bit encryption. You should be able to see the lock icon at the bottom of your screen. You would also notice that when you are logging in, the URL prefix is https: (s indicates secure).
Access to the server and its data is very tightly controlled and restricted. We recognize the sensitivity of this information and respect customer privacy.
- What is a TrackSheet? How do I ceate it?
- A TrackSheet is a name given to a collection of related expenses. For instance, families who track expenses on a monthly basis, could name their Tracksheets like "Home-Exp-07-08". To track vacation expenses you could have a TrackSheet called "Hawaii-Trip-2008 ".
You create a TrackSheet by clicking on the Add TrackSheet menu-option on the TrackSheet Listing page.

- What are Income/Expense categories? How do I create my own?
- Income and expense categories are simply headings (rent, groceries, car-payments...). You can assign an income or expense heading to each income or expense transaction. XpenseTracker.com provides a default set of income and expense headings which you can use right away. If you need more you can add to this list or modify some of the existing ones to suit your needs.
On the TransactionListing page, click on the "Properties" icon to lead to a page from where you can view and edit the income/expense categories.
- How do I view my transactions?
- On the TrackSheet listing page, click on the TrackSheet name to drill-down into the list of income and expense transactions. By default you see transactions listed in order of the inc/exp categories. But you can also view transactions with Budgets or in order of date. Click on View Transactions on the menu and select the appropriate sub-option.

- How do I add budget amounts to my TrackSheet?
- XpenseTracker.com offers 2 ways with which to add budgets to your TrackSheet.
Fast spiffy way: Click on Add-Transactions > Quick Budgets Entry on the menu. This will let you enter your whole budget over all categories in one shot. Slow deliberative way: Click on Add Transactions > Add a Single Transaction on the Menu. This will let you enter one transaction at a time. On that transaction entry screen, specify transaction-type as "Budget".

- How do I add transactions to my TrackSheet?
- XpenseTracker.com offers 2 ways with which to add transactions to your TrackSheet.
Fast spiffy way: Click on Add Transactions > Add Multiple Transactions on the Menu. Now you can enter a batch of 5 expense transactions in one go. Slow deliberative way: Click on Add Transactions > Add a Single Transaction from the Menu. This will let you enter one transaction at a time. You can specify the date description and amount for that transaction. If you are sharing this expense (say with a roommate), you can specify the distribution (50-50 or otherwise).

- How Do I import my Credit-card or bank statement into XpenseTracker.com?
- If you would like to avoid data-input altogether, you can import your bank or credit-card statement which carries most of your expense transactions anyway.
Most banks or Credit Card institutions let you download your transactions in a Quicken(TM) compatible format called (.qif or .qfx). XpenseTracker is capable of reading that format and importing those transactions. Note:You do not have to be a Quicken (TM) User to use this function. If your bank provides you with online access to your account, download those transactions (monthly statements) in Quicken(TM) format to your PC. Then log in to XpenseTracker.com and on the menu of Transactions Listing page select, Add Transactions > Import Bank Statement. Upload the file into a TrackSheet within XpenseTracker.

- How do I analyze my spending pattern?
- On the TransactionListing Page menu, select View Transactions > Analyze this TrackSheet. You will see the total amounts under each income or expense category. You will also see a pie-chart and bar-graphs depicting your expense pattern.
If, you want to view your expense pattern spread over Multiple TrackSheets, select View Transactions > Expense Trend Analysis. Choose the TrackSheets you want to include for this analysis. XpenseTracker performs the analysis and displays it graphically.

- How do I export transactions from XpenseTracker.com to my PC?
- You can export your TrackSheet to a file on your PC in 3 formats - namely: tab-delimited text, MS-Excel worksheet, Quicken98 (.QIF). On the Transaction Listing page(s), select Maintenance > Export Transactions. Choose your output format and click the Export button.
- How do I share my TrackSheet with others?
- When you create a TrackSheet, you can include email addresses of others that you would like to share the TrackSheet with (spouse, roommate, buddies...). If you would like to include others after having created the TrackSheet, then you can do so by clicking on the "Manage Users" icon on the TrackSheet Listing page.
Similarly, you can also discontinue sharing a TrackSheet with others. However, you should be the owner (or creator) of the TrackSheet to have this privilege.
- How do I enter expenses that need to be shared with my roommate or buddies?
- After specifying the title, amount and category of expenditure, you need to indicate who spent the money (expensed by) and among whom is the amount shared (charged to).
By default XpenseTracker will distribute the amount equally but you can change these amounts. You need to ensure that the sum of distributions is equal to the original transaction amount. Occasionally, this may require manual adjustment to overcome a difference caused by arithmetic rounding.
- How do I know how much money is owed to/by me?
- On the Transaction Listing page, select View Transactions > View Distributions to see how expenses were distributed among your group. You can click on the Moolah button or the icon to see the money that is owed to/by you.
If you want to see the money that is owed to/by other users on the TrackSheet, click on Moolah for All button on the Moolah page or icon on the Transaction Listing page(s).
